Do not expect the Italian Venice Biennale. From September 25 to October 26, 2014, this contemporary art event will make you love the East side of the City.

Belleville is full of surprisesThe lively and still mutating hood in East Paris (20th arrondissement), monopolized by hipsters, bobos and Asians, will give you an other kind of Biennale, more artsy and open to everyone. Small galleries, mostly unknow by the public and open in the past few years, will give quite a fews hows, performances, installations and “happenings” in art spaces, parks or on the pavement. So you can just walk by and enjoy the shows made by locals. And it’s a great opportunaty to buy a unique piece of art (prices are between 20 and 5.000 euros).

For more information, visit the official website and read the program in English. Oh, and there’s an Off-Biennale. Check the Facebook page for the latest updates. Here’s the meeting point for all the information you’ll need, at “Le Pavillon Carré de Baudouin”, 121 Rue de Menilmontant, 75020 Paris.

Want to eat during your journey? At Felicity Lemon or Chatomat for excellent new waive Parisian cuisine (book a table) or at Guo Xin (47 rue de Belleville), for the cheapest and still most delicious gyozas/raviolis you’ll taste in Paris (small restaurant, not more than 35 seats).

Where to grab a beer? On the massive terrace of Folies, at the crossing of rue de Belleville and rue Denoyez [picture above] (ask for a tasty French kind of beer, called “Picon bière”) or at O’Paris for one of the best cafe with a view of Paris [picture below].
