We are always thrilled to talk about the Musée Rodin which is one of the most precious and at the same time boldest museum in the city.
Located in a magnificent hotel particulier near the invalides, the museum shelters thousands of pieces from the great sculptor Auguste Rodin. Its huge garden also features pieces including the Penseur and the Gates of Hell.
But the reason why we love this museum so much is that every year, its curator decides on another artist they want to feature and they dispatch dozens of pieces in the gardens and in the galleries.
This year they decided to feature the great photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who, despite coming from another century and having a completely different cultural prism has a lot of common grounds with the venerable sculptor.
Their interest for the human anatomy and beauty is undeniable and the dialog between their chosen medium (mineral materials for Rodin, argentic paper for Mapplethorpe) shows that in a very unique manner. Many other and more subtle similarities will be found during the visit, among which : a focus on showing movement, an obsession on contrast (black and white / shadows and lights) for example.
We will let you make your mind about this ambitious and daring choice from the curators of the Musée Rodin; in the meantime don’t forget to enjoy the magnificent gardens and the sun! Check out the Museum website.
