Cheer in the first day of summer with 34th annual World Music Day on June 21st, where major cities across Europe (including Paris) are hosting free all-day music festivities to encourage musical creativity, sharing, and performance. La Fête de la Musique will definitely be ringing throughout Paris – all performers and participants are donating their time and enthusiasm to make the day a huge success.

If you are lucky enough to be in Paris during the solstice, you don’t want to miss out on the plentiful concerts available. No matter where you are or what kind of music you enjoy, La Fête de la Musique is designed for your enjoyment.

We’ve pre-selected a few concerts and places offering music for all genres, tastes, and audiences, to help you make the most of your day. Look here for a full list of programs and find out what’s happening closest to you.

Rock Pop Folk

Fans of Joy Division and the Cure, come listen to new wave band Governor on Place du marché Saint-Honoré, from 8:30pm to 11pm (Metro Pyramides)

Place du marché Sainte-Catherine from 8:30 to 10:30pm: Lemon Hearts, a seven musician band, plays The Rolling Stones, Téléphone, Amy Winehouse, The Beatles, Adèle and more.

In front of the Canadian Cultural Centre, young Canadian musicians will perform: Half Moon Run (folk-rock), Busty and the Bass (électro-soul-hip hop), Philémon Cimon (pop), Wesli (reggae-afrobeat), Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire (rock), Princess Century (cosmic disco) from 7pm to 12:30am.

Electro, Folk, Hip-Hop

Block Party in rue Tiquetonne: Facebook event, Electro music and street food from 5pm to 1am. After party at the Maze.

Café Barge: House and deep house from 5pm to 2am for the Wahou party for a true Summer evening by the Seine River. Facebook event.

Tropical Discoteq in a secret patio in Le Marais district! From 6pm to Midnight, mojitos and DJs in a opo-up garden.

Rex Club (5 boulevard Poissonnière, Metro: Bonne-Nouvelle, from 11Pm to 1am): The side party of electro exhibition Electrosound, on the history of electro music, with Acid Washed, Christine Webster, Christian Zanési Gez Varley, Andrew Claristidge and Jean-Yves Leloup.

Swedish Institute: Celebrate Midsommar the famous Swedish celebration of Summer day, with your family from 5:30pm in this secret garden of Le Marais district with danse, folk and then electro hip hop until 9:30pm. More here.

Canal Saint-Martin (95 Quai de Valmy, 75010 Paris Metro: Château-Landon (line 7), Jaurès (lines 2, 5, and 7bis), Goncourt (line 11)): Electro, deep house and techno sounds with Alan Aaron, Yuki, Nicolaon, Charlie Oohlala, Léo Goldstein, Koddi et Timal & Friends.

Point Éphémère (Where? 200 quai de Valmy, 75010 Paris Metro: Jaurès (lines 2, 5, and 7bis)): Animal Records until 3am (Open Mic Session until 11pm, register there with your band!!) to party, Animal Kitchen for the delicious street food.

Shakespear celebrated at the Paris Philharmonic
Enjoy English music celebrating the poetry of Shakespeare in 2016 for the 400th anniversary of its death, in North East Paris.

Jazz

Sunset Sunside
A small and cosy venue sure to fill up quickly, Le Sunset Subside is a jazz club offering an homage to Ella Fitzgerald at 8pm, Betty Carter, at 10pm and the at midnight Sarah Vaughan.
When? From 7pm to 0:30am.
Where? 60, rue des Lombards, 75001 Paris Metro: Châtelet (lines 1, 4, 7, 11, and 14)
Tip: You can also head over to Baiser Salé, right next door at 58 Rue des Lombards, offering a Motown jam session until 2AM. 

World

Roda do Covocao
Dance the night away to Samba with the cavaquinho, a small Portuguese/Brazilian guitar, and escape to Brazil for a truly unique experience.
When? From 4PM to 12AM, concert at 8PM.
Where? Studio de l’Ermitage, 8 Rue de l’Ermitage, 75020 Paris Metro: Ménilmontant (line 2), Jourdain (line 11), or Gambetta (line 3)

Another Brazilian Night in center Paris, on rue Baucahumont at Les Ecuries, until 2am.
