Let’s ride! Starting Monday June 30, 2015, CityScoot a system of rental electric scooters is the latest transportation service for locals and visitors to be launched in Paris after Vélib, rental bikes and Autolib, rental electric cars (Cityscoot is a private company as opposed to Velib’ and Autolib’, which are public initiatives).
Cityscoot starts with 70 scooters and by the end of 2015 the company plans to increase their number up to 1000 vehicles if the first months are a success. As opposed to bikes and cars, scooters will be available at any point of Paris, and a special mobile application will detect their location.
Prices will go from 2 euros for 15 minutes if you leave the scooter at an electric station (there will be about 300 through the city) to 3 euros if you just leave it in the street. Also, if a you pick up a scoot with less than 30% charge, the ride is free. These scooters can provide a range between 60 to 100 km.
The perfect service for friends and couples while visiting Paris, to easily get through the city’s traffic and also to enjoy a beautiful stroll with a view, especially during spring and summer days.
Be carful though, it’s very dangerous to drive in Paris, especially for scooters, and you have to be careful at all times: scooters are not very solid, you only have a helmet for protection, bikes usually don’t respect the signals. As for cars or buses, they don’t use their wing mirrors very often when overtaking one another or changing lines. It’s not like driving a vespa in Italy, do not fantasise it! It’s still very useful but for your own safety do not rent one if you never drove one before.
