This true Neapolitan trattoria in Bastille is the best Italian addition the neighborhood had in years.

East Mamma opened its doors in April 2015, launched by a young French entrepreneur and his Italian fellow, head of the Big Mamma Group, with a Neapolitan cook in the kitchen (where the magic happens). They are so talented at what they do that they opened a new trattoria popolare and cocktail bar for aperitivos not far from there, in Oberkampf, called Ober Mamma.

Their motto: True Italian cuisine a true Italian prices

Their secret? All products and food are imported straight from Italian local producers and then home made in the restaurant’s wood oven. How do they do that? Both founders travelled through Italy for a year to bring back the best of local and traditional trattoria atmospheres, food, wine and quality of service. They also met with their local producers there. They do know when they talk of “true Italian cuisine a true Italian prices“. And even their staff, Italian for most of it, will perfectly guide you through your meal.

The food and products are then imported to the restaurant on a daily or weekly basis and everything is made, prepared and cooked on site (home made pastas for example)

No wonder why the restaurant has been full for months now, at lunch and dinner time, especially since you can’t make any reservation (arrive at least 15 minutes before the doors open).

On the menu, be aware that their dishes are as massive as they are tasty. We had the “great idea” to order a creamy burrata to start followed by a pizza and let us tell you it was hard to see the end of it… but what a tasty foodie delight. From the natural olive oil jar on the table to the fresh tomatoes and basil as well asthe Neapolitan pizza cooked in the wooden oven with a perfect crunchy and smelting dough.

Add a glass of natural wine from Italian producers to your meal, and you’ll have traveled from Paris to Napoli without even noticing it.
