French film company Gaumont is one of the most well-established studios in the industry, and it is celebrating its 120 years of film production and distribution (in 2015) at the Centquatre in the North of Paris. An eclectic center of art, it serves as the perfect backdrop to discover the history and development of Gaumont and film in France across the decades.

As old as cinema itself, Gaumont is hosting this free exhibit using various media such as film clips, posters, and original costumes, as well as displaying some of the first film cameras in use. The audience is truly taken on a voyage across time, notably with objects such as a “diorama,” invented by Daguerre in 1823 and used in theater in the 19th century.

Interactive and educational, the exhibit draws upon the best of Gaumont and French film, illuminating its central role in French culture. As the Centquatre is relatively quiet compared to other cultural centers, it is perfect for cinephiles and families to enjoy and immerse in film through this grand “maison”.

When? From April 15th to August 5th, 2015. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 2PM to 7PM.

Where? Le Centquatre, Halle Aubervilliers
104 Rue d’Aubervilliers, 75019 Paris
Metro: Riquet (Line 7)
