From June 21st to October 23rd, 2017

The British painter David Hockney, whose motto is « Love Life » gets his retrospective at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, through more than 160 works (paintings, photographs, engravings, video installations, drawings and printed works).

A complexe and large career for the 80 year old pop art Englishman, who started this career at age 11, inspired by Picasso, Pollock, Bacon, Hopper and Matisse.

An hedonist painter

As an artist, he decided he would do propaganda. He used his homosexuality in a 1960s-puritan England, to talk about his one true subject: love.

He then leaves for the US, in New York where he gets famous: he dyes his hair and surfs the Beatles and Rolling Stones-wave and takes advantage of the love/coolness for everything Britain-related in the US.

Seen as an hedonist painter, he likes for his audience to be immersed in its paintings. He also has a ground rule: Always paint the people he knows. As he always liked to take risks and experiment new things, he now questions image reproduction through new technologies.

More about the exhibition and tickets / Everyday from from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Late night opening: Thursdays till 11 pm.
