Nestled quietly in a courtyard off of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Honor is Paris’ best kept secret in terms of coffee in the 8th arrondissement.
A newcomer to the Parisian independent specialty coffee shop scene, Honor opened in February of 2015 and has quickly gained recognition among locals and passersby alike for its exceptional coffee. Supported by signature Coutume-roasted blends, the team (Daniel Warburton and Angelle Boucher) delicately presses or extracts everything from an espresso to a Night Brew (aptly named, as their cold brew is steeped overnight for 15 hours) with premium quality and sourced beans.
Rare hospitality and welcoming baristas
The idea and space for Honor arose after a chance encounter with Coutume’s co-founder in London, who proposed the available courtyard space in Paris, and Daniel and Angelle just the experience to implement their vision.
Both baristas are extremely experienced and with solid ethos, with work in coffee shops in London and Australia under their belts. A friendly team, they are always willing to interact with their customers to give them insight into the coffee that they are drinking – a hospitality harder to find in bigger and more successful shops around.
A quiet cobblestone courtyard
The cobblestone courtyard itself is worth a visit, with Honor built in a weatherproof kiosk that opens its walls in the summer, leaving a minimalist wooden black frame that is both artisanal and aesthetic. Conversely, wintertime sees the translucent panes pulled down for heating insulation, where you can enjoy your Honor coffee in a unique seating arrangement inside behind the bar. Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, filled with high-end shops and embassies, could not be a better locale for this design.
Take note: the team at Honor recommends that you take your coffee without sugar here – whether you order a double espresso or a flat white, a natural sweetness and premium extraction means that the coffee itself is all you need.
Honor is an absolute must for its unbeaten coffee, the tranquil ambiance, and the murmur of a quiet Parisian courtyard. We can’t wait to see the growth their dedication will bring in the seasons to come.
