We know Christmas shopping is just behind us but who can say “No” to January sales in Paris?

The craziness starts on Wednesday, January 11th and ends on Tuesday February 14th 2017.

Here’s all you need to know and be aware of about our winter sales.

VAT, best hours, Sunday openings…

>What are the Paris Winter sales? Typically held once in the winter and once in the summer, sales -read “soldes” in French- are government regulated and last 5 to 6 weeks. During that time prices are continuously slashed.

>When is the best time to shop? The first days are going to be overcrowded. Our advice: Head to the stores in the morning during the week. Avoid weekends afternoons and lunch breaks (especially in the Galeries Lafayette area).

>Where to eat after your shopping at the Galeries Lafayette in the Opera district? Three restaurants to discover here and a popup ice bar on a rooftop.

>What is the Valued Added Tax (VAT) and why you should pay attention to it (from the Paris Visitor Bureau): VAT recovery is possible for the attendees who come from a country outside the European Union. You have to be over 15 years of age and have spent a minimum of €175 ($212) in the same store within the last 3 months. For a VAT refund, you can ask for a “Tax Free Shopping France invoice” when you shop in any major store or “Tax free for tourists” boutique. The amount to be refunded is shown under the heading “montant de la détaxe”. You should have your invoices stamped at airport customs on leaving the EU and return the validated pink copies within three months using the stamped addressed envelope given to you at the time you made your purchases.

>Here are the 7 regulated shopping areas in Paris open on Sundays // Galeries Lafayette Haussmann are now open on Sundays from 10:30am to 8pm. So are the Citadium (trendy urban wear / behind the Galeries Lafayette on rue de Provence) and BHV/Marais.

>Men Fashion: Here’s a tour of the Marais best and trendiest Made in France brands /

>Can’t-miss concept stores: La Garçonnière (men) and Merci (fashion/home design)
