Located on the East side of the Montmartre hill, off the tourist crowd, here’s a local bar for a PM drink (an unbeatable 3,6 euros a pinte of beer during happy hours), an afternoon coffee or just a gateway for an hour of work on your laptop.
Locals from Montmartre love this (almost trendy but still very local) place around the corner (the bar is literally located on the corner of two streets).
With its large counter, the small alcoves, the destroyed vintage couches and the wooden tables, the bar’s atmosphere falls perfectly between a British cool pub and an old-fashioned French bar. Moreover, the managing team is very nice and welcoming.
What else? A great place to enjoy a casual Sunday brunch as well. The kitchen is also famous for its burger and fries. A nice terrace for the Spring/summer days.
A bit of history? In French, a “Café du Commerce” is a conversation or a chitchat of little interest between non-experts about highly important matters like politics or wars. Used to take place at the counter top of French cafés, after having consumed vast quantities of alcohol. If you like never ending polarized debates where the two people don’t even listen to each other…!
