Little Parisians love it. I can still remember the fun I had when I was a kid and my parents were taking me to the Jardin du Luxembourg, the largest park on the Left Bank in Paris, on Saturdays afternoon. I was maybe 6 or 7 and playing with a toy-sailboat on the Grand Bassin (the large pond in the park) in such a beautiful surrounding was the best time of the week.

The colorful boats are controlled with a long pole that is given to your kid when you rent the boat at the shop right by the pond (photo above). No engine, no electronics, it’s only luck, wind, agility and patience to guide the boat. a great activity for the kids to develop these qualities. Expect your child to run (carefully) around the pond, with many other kids like him sailing his little boat. It’s a great family and safe atmosphere.

Meanwhile, dear parents, you can sit down in one of the many moveable inclined chairs around the pond and catch some rays while watching after your kids. If it rains, don’t come to the park, there’s almost nowhere to hide, it is not worth it.

In front of the pond stands the Luxembourg Palace. Declared a National Palace in 1791, it became home to the Directoire, the House of Peers (1814-1848), and the Senate of the Third Republic (from 1879). It is now home to the French Senate.
