Noglu made quite a buzz when it opened by bringing the ‘gluten-free’ phenomenon from the US to the French capital.

What is gluten-free? A gluten-free diet is a diet that excludes gluten, a protein composite found in wheat and related grains, including barley and rye. Gluten causes health problems in sufferers of celiac disease and some cases of wheat allergy. There is ongoing research and debate on non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Some people believe that there are health benefits to gluten-free eating for the general population, but there is no published experimental evidence to support such claims.

While some foodies were skeptical, many locals quickly adopted the healthy cuisine – that has managed to remain tasty though. Located in the heart of the so charming Passage des Panoramas in the 2nd district of Paris, the dark front entrance is discreet and elegant and makes us think the restaurant is pretty chic.

Nourished but not heavy

Once you’ve passed the door, you feel warmed by the atmosphere that is actually quite cozy and inviting. At the ground floor, visitors can seat around a large communal table while the first floor has been transformed to a dining room where you’ll feel more intimate.

With the brunch formula (28€), I got a salty plate with poached eggs and smoked salmon that come with a gluten-free cake, followed by a sweet crunchy granola (the cheese plate was a bit light in my opinion). For dessert, I honored my sweet palate with the still warm apple and pecan crumble. I appreciated that tea, (gluten-free) bread and marmelade were at will. The whole thing was earthy but the gluten-free touch made me feel nourrished but not heavy.

That’s what is cool at restaurant Noglu: you can indulge yourself without feeling guilty! A great venue for veggies, vegans and healthy or diet foodies.

By the way, it’s also a grocery store and a take away. Check out their Facebook Page and official website.
